Hala is such a tastefully decorated and welcoming place. Food is excellent throughout, freshly prepared and delicately seasoned, with actually way too much food on the table (but nice to´choose from), and the surprise for me was the dessert combination in the menu ... everything super fresh and just prepared perfectly to point. So good... They were also very capable to alter the menu to fit a gluten-free diet without any issues. Full marks and a recommendation. Go for the menu. PS: they seem to have a few 2nd rate tables that probably don't feel as nice as others, might be a good idea for them to re-think...

You get a solid feel for how friendly a business's customer service is when you're a foreigner who doesn't speak the local language and you're traveling alone with a half dozen pieces of luggage. I had a few hours of down time between dropping off my rental car and checking in at the airport. So I went to Hala for a leisurely lunch because of the great reviews. These people were SO NICE to me and very helpful. They never once made me feel like a nuisance for having to store my luggage while I dined. They were totally booked but squeezed me in without a reservation anyway. Oh, and the food was absolutely fantastic! Wish I'd thought to take a photo- I had the lamb-stuffed eggplant and a glass of reisling. Not expensive for the quality too. Love this place! I'll definitely return next time I'm in Hamburg.

- great food, great service - portions could be a little bit bigger, but then that's probably just me. - most likely will go again, so I can try to figure out what's the dish that comes in the largest portion
