Kompliment.
What a great restaurant! When you walk in, you see this immaculate restaurant with beautiful greenery, and I bet in the summer it would be even more gorgeous.
To start off, service was just AMAZING. Our waitress was so attentive, and did things in a way that never interfered with our conversations.
We ordered the prix-fixe lunch menu, which was quite reasonable, and got a variety of great food! Flavours worked beautifully, and dishes were so delicately presented.
Would definitely return! Great place to settle down and have a great lunch with friends.
Before getting our room in the adjoining hotel, we had time for a quick bite to eat. I chose to build my own salad and was very satisfied. The service is top notch and as stated earlier, the food was fantastic. Can't wait to try more meals here during our stay in Munich.
We stayed at The Charles for 4 nights using the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts package, which included 85 Euros food/beverage credit. We decided to eat at Sophia's (instead of room service) using our credit. Even on a Tuesday night, this place was packed! The service at Sophia's is 5-stars! Since we were hotel guests, they greeted us by name. The ambience was dim lit and romantic. After we ordered our entrees, they brought out an amuse-bouche platter on a wooden cutting board with bread, veggies in a dip and this phenomenal roasted garlic. As soon as we completely devoured the bread and roasted garlic, they brought more garlic and more bread! So great! I need to learn to roast my garlic like them! I ordered the lobster linguini and my husband ordered steak (he loved it so much he even ate the king oyster mushrooms! And he usually doesn't like mushrooms!). The steak was perfectly cooked (see my picture). Desserts were great as well! We enjoyed this romantic dinner greatly!
We also came for breakfast here every morning (included with our hotel package). The breakfast was out of this world! The bread bar was amazing, with honey in the honeycomb! The charcuterie, cheese and Bavarian sausage bar was amazing as well! They also had a fruit/veggie/cereal/yogurt bar. And fresh squeezed juices!! Orange, grapefruit, apfel, multivitamin... and prosecco for mimosas!!! I had a feast every morning. By the second half of our stay... I discovered the Bavarian cheese spread to eat on the pretzel and ate that every morning thereafter! Highly recommend!
What a lovely evening! We ordered the prize fixe "menu" of the day with the wine pairings. Before the appetizer came, our sweet server, Maria, brought typical regional bread--crusty yet tender--which was wonderful with olive oil and salt. The starter was a nice shrimp, tomato and avocado ceviche. I'm just a Kansas girl and usually wary of raw food but this was maybe the best dish of the four. Next course was also outstanding--gnocchi, tender and flavorful. The serving was not too big, thank goodness. The main was venison tenderloin. The flavor was outstanding but the texture may have been improved had it stayed in the oven (on the grill?) a shade longer; it was medium rare rather than the medium we ordered (and the kitchen recommended). Finally, dessert was a tasty combo of a milk chocolate covered cake and poppyseed ice cream. All of the food ingredients were exceedingly fresh and so interesting--flavors came through that had us wondering, "what IS that?" Yet never thinking "how pretentious" or "too complicated" or "too many notes."
The wines were lovely and a bargain. And my pre-dinner cocktail, a rosemary-enhanced Wild Turkey drink (the "Wild Rose?") came with clever ice orbs instead of cubes.
A great meal, marred only by my holding forth on US Politics, to the dismay of my long-suffering husband. He, by the way, would rate this meal in his top 5 of all time.
