Das Lokal ist nach der Renovierung sehr hell und freundlich. Der Service ist sehr gut. Man findet selten so einen guten Service. Das Essen ist sehr lecker und von der Größe genau richtig. Leider waren bei meinem Essen die Spätzle etwas trocken, dass Putenschnitzel dazu war sehr gut.

Kommen seit Jahren immer gern. Service sehr höflich und schnell. Essen sehr lecker und Alles frisch.

Mega tolles Essen wir hatten den Lamm Spieß und das schnitzel sehr lecker und auch die Menge war sehr üppig. Total nette Bedienung. Hygiene Konzept wird konsequent umgesetzt keine Bedenken wieder her zukommen. Schade das es solchen Gastronomen schwer gemacht wird

Frisch renoviert, Aussenbereich mit Wärmestrahler versehen, leckeres Essen, sehr netter Service. ABER die Preise haben angezogen! In der aktuellen Situation nicht für jedermann zahlbar. Das war auch unser Grund beim letzten Mal dort nichts zu essen.

Sehr schönes Ambiente, schnelle und nette Bedienung. Sehr gute Portionsgröße. Obwohl wir nicht reservierten, haben wir dennoch einen Platz bekommen. Kartenzahlung möglich. Die Lenden waren außen knusprig angebraten, innen sehr saftig, die Temperatur war perfekt. Die Pfefferrahmsoße war etwas salziger aber sehr gut. Die Bratkartoffeln waren knusprig. Ein zusätzlich georderter Strohhalm kam sofort. Einen Stern Abzug gibt es, da der Kellner den Nachbarstisch abgewischt hat und der Lappen extrem gestunken hat. Nachdem ich das dem Kellner berichtete, sah ich ihn beim rauslaufen den Lappen reinigen. Eine professionelle und kompetente Antwort erhielt ich von ihm. Wir sind sehr zufrieden und würden nochmals hingehen. 4,5 / 5 Sternen!

Tolle bodenständige Küche mit wechselnder Wochenkarte, nette Besitzer und es herrscht immer eine tolle Stimmung dort. Das Restaurant ist recht klein deshalb sitzt man sehr eng und gemütlich bei einander, aber trotzdem ist die Stimmung toll

Ich finde es hier sehr gemütlich. Salat hat leider nicht besonders gut geschmeckt ( war wenig Salat, sehr viel Kraut und Karotten mit Joghurt Dressing - einfallsloses Dressing ) . Das Essen war in Ordnung . Personal nicht besonders freundlich.

Kleines uriges Lokal. Leckeres Essen zu einem angemessenen Preis. Man merkt das es frisch ist. Wenn ich mal wieder in Mannheim bin gerne wieder ;-)

Great authentic German food! They have English menus and the staff all speaks good English. Food was amazing and this was the best meal we had all trip!

Went to this place after first going to another spot, where I sat at very uncomfortable bar stools and just left. On that note, the bar stools are very comfortable here. The service was very friendly, as were the guests sitting near me. Had great conversations and learned a lot. The food, the reason most people will come here, really good. I had the pork shnitzel stuffed with feta and peppers. How can you go wrong? You cannot. The fries were equally as good. Wine. So, as a tourist, I am shocked when I see the costs of soda and wine the same at a water. The first glass of dry Riesling was nice, but a bit too dry. The next semi-dry Riesling was perfect. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the area. Oh, they have an English menu if you ask.

The customer service was great, the interior looks really old and cool... However, the the schnitzel was a bit on the salty end. The place was packed with people on a Saturday evening, and, for a good reason. Overall I recommend this restaurant to all looking for a German dining experience.

They help with English. Cheap wine and great food. We'll be back tomorrow. Traditional German with many locals.

We ordered a main course for less than 10€. It was good and there was a lot to eat (maybe even too much). Waiters are nice and speak english.

I returned to Mannheim after a two year absence and I am absolutely delighted to return and enjoy great food, beer, and staff. You know you are in the right place when locals and staff greet each other as they arrive and loudly say goodbye as the group leaves.

We visited Alter Simpl for dinner again this year after visiting it a few years ago when in Mannheim. We remembered cozy atmosphere and delicious schnitzel. This was still true after 2 years. Unfortunately, we hadn't made reservations, so we ended up sitting at the bar, directly in front of the bartender, which was a bit awkward, but ended up being fine. I tried the local Dunkel beer and my wife had a heffeweisen, both of which were excellent. Like most German beer, they were smooth and delicious, and went very well with well cooked meat. I tried the jagerschnitzel while my wife tried the ziguenerschnitzel. These were just as fantastic as we remembered. Huge cuts of meat smothered in delicious gravy. In my case, with mushrooms, and in hers, peppers and onions. Service was very good. Very fast and friendly. Our schnitzels did take a while to come out, but I think it was based on how incredibly crowded the place was. The atmosphere is typical German, with lots of dark wood and a fake yule log on the screen in the corner which I appreciated.

Great little spot to eat, friendly service and very good German dishes for under €10! I will definately be going back next time I am in Mannheim.
