This place was a great traditional German restaurant right in the middle of old town. The food was great. They also allowed me to piece together my favorite things from the menu at no additional charge. (instead of ordering an entree with predefined sides and sauce)

I was able to satisfy my German food cravings at this authentic restaurant close to the castle in Aschaffenburg, Germany. It is a very cosy restaurant inside and there's a nice patio and courtyard as well. I had the warm goat cheese salad as a starter and veal schnitzel as a main course. Everything was delicious and fresh. The service was excellent too.

Aschaffenburg is my hometown and the old town part had been always a pleasure. I always stop by the enjoy the food, the beer and the staff. Sitting outside has its benefits of people watching or just stare at the beautiful castle in the distance. Sitting Inside is cozy and comfy. It has been a pillar in aschaffenburg for many many years and I hope it will continue this way!

Located right down the road from the Schloss Johannisburg. Quaint atmosphere - you can eat in the outdoor garden! The service was good, especially by German standards. They also have an English menu :) The food is good, and the portions are huge - quite reasonably priced. I had the turkey steak, which had a rather thick and creamy mushroom sauce. Dining partner had the pork steak, which came with so-so pommes frites.

I and a friend had lunch here. We thought the kitchen was already closed as we arrived around 14:00. The waitress helpfully pointed out that the kitchen was closing soon; if we provided our order now, we could get a hot entree. The friendliness of the service continued throughout the entire meal.

I had lunch here and have to say it was absolutely excellent. Great food in abundance means you have to come with a good appetite (unless you order dishes for a small appetite für den kleinen Hunger) The place is rustic, just like the food. The service was fast and friendly. I had a Schnitzel which was really 2 Schnitzels with a nice portion of very tasty fried potatoes and a bowl of salad upfront. I also had a melted goat's cheese starter, which was very tasty too (and probably covered my daily requirement of calories!). For dessert I tried both crème brûlée (which I did not like much - it was too rich) and Apfelstrudel, which was very good. All in all we spent around EUR18 per person, which was very acceptable. I will be visiting this restaurant again and again.

While visiting Europe last month, my cousins took us to one of their favorite restaurants, Zum Fegerer. Now we know why it's one of their favorites. The home of a former chimney sweep converted to a charming, homey restaurant, the place is cozy and inviting (plentiful parking within easy walking distance) close to the city center. The service was lovely. I ordered the Hirsch mit Spaetzel, Kraut und Apfel and thought I would fall off my chair with joy. My father was a sportsman when I was a girl, so I grew up loving game meat. This was the absolute best venison dish I've had since my father passed away. Succulent, melt-in-your-mouth, extremely flavorful but not gamey, a velvety wine sauce with not too many other ingredients to mask the meat, perfect kraut, tender spaetzel, and a stuffed, baked apple that still makes my mouth water when I think of it. The wine was a gift from heaven. I'm usually an Apfelwein girl when we're near Frankfurt (I adore that stuff), but this white wine was nectar from the gods. If we lived in Germany near Aschaffenburg, we would be at Zum Fegerer weekly.
